I could make the case for 2, 3 or even 4 circles in the next box.
what am i missing here? this is for my daughters first grade test.

2 is the simplest and most logical answer. 3 requires each conjoined box as a stand alone math problem. 4 would be each sequential box is the total of all circles in previous boxes.
