Thinking about the state of Afghanistan a year after the Taliban takeover, I kept returning to an interview with a talented 6th grade student She plans to fail her year-end exams so she can stay in school. Self-sabotage offers her more hope than success theguardian.com/world/2022/a…

In Isfahan, three women twirled their scarves while hanging a banner reading "The next one is one of us." The next person is the one who will be killed by the Islamic Republic due to her hijab. #مهسا_امینی #MahsaAmini #IranRevolution

This is very disturbing @British_Airways -- there should be priority updates/support when lost luggage is so critical
Dear @British_Airways still waiting for an update on when I might expect my bag. Its been 48 hours now since bag was mislabeled by ground staff and sent to wrong location There are parts for my prosthetic legs in bag (which i'm not allowed to take through as hand luggage)

Most Christmas dreams involve great food, fun presents and time with loved ones. Not deportation flights
Suella Braverman says it would be “my dream” to see a flight deporting migrants to Rwanda by Christmas. But she warns it will take much longer because of the lengthy process of legal challenges. #ChoppersPolitics

Happy Nobel Prize week to all who observe. This is your reminder that, in October 1922, Proust, Joyce, Woolf, and Rilke were all alive and publishing major work. The prize that year went to Jacinto Benavente.

It’s better to donate to organisations working in the flood affected areas than individuals. Edhi Foundations and Al Khidmat are two organisations that are on the ground in Sindh, Balochistan & other provinces. @BhuttoZulfikar also donated all amount, which he collected, to Edhi

Couple of things re today’s spin round Donbas. We didn’t male it to Lyman, but it’s clear despite a couple of shells coming into Sloviansk in the morning that the fall of Lyman has taken a lot of pressure of Sloviansk. The situation around Kostantianyvka rather different.

These Hazara girls were in a classroom taking a vow: to stand firm in the face of life’s challenges, contribute in building a better society, and not surrender to difficulties. Minutes later, a suicide bomber blew himself up in the middle of this classroom, taking over 70 lives.

A young boy sitting outside the classroom where a suicide bomber killed his sister today in west Kabul, a mostly Hazara neighbourhood (alongside up to 50 other female students). His deceased sister’s backpack next to him. This heartbreaking image defines Afghanistan.
